Garden

In the back garden, next to the house is a large studio that has power, lighting, heating and an adjacent toilet. The studio has openable windows, French doors, attractive wooden walls and a wooden cathedral ceiling beneath a guttered Colorbond roof.

You could use the versatile as a garden room, an artist’s studio, a peaceful office, or even a spare bedroom.

In the front garden, a picturesque Croquet hut looks onto the croquet lawn. It has openable windows, French doors, wooden walls and a wooden cathedral ceiling beneath a Colorbond roof.

You can use the hut to store sporting equipment. It has an additional feature of a dart-board fixture to its outside back wall. The position for standing to throw darts is marked by paving stones set in the lawn. The croquet court’s perimeters are also permanently marked by stone paving set in the lawn.

In another area of the garden, a large gazebo looks onto the outdoor boules court and also enjoys a view of the property.

Each section of the garden has a place for you to sit and enjoy the different views. The garden has also been designed to look attractive all seasons. Hedging adds to your privacy and ensures all year greenery.

The property has 4 separate fenced and gated areas, which are the:

  • front garden
  • back garden
  • orchard
  • shaded long dog run

There are 52 rose bushes in the garden, chosen for their fragrance and beauty. The numerous other fragrant plants include jasmine, gardenia, lavender, carnation, honeysuckle, citrus, osmanthus, witch-hazel, and special varieties of fragrant camellia and clematis.

There are also herbs and medicinal plants, such as saffron, Tasmanian pepper berries, bay leaf and numerous rosemary bushes. With a small still it would be easy for you to make perfumes or essential oils.

A variety of well-established different fruit and nut trees are growing. These are dwarf size trees to enable easy maintenance; however, they will produce standard size fruit for you.

A walled orchard contains an ornate wrought iron aviary in which 4 varieties of grapes are grown. The aviary is to keep the birds out, not in.

The fruit and nut trees in the garden include lemons, cumquats, mandarins, grapes, pomegranate, almond, pine nuts, olives, apples, cherries, fig, olives, peach, apricot, nectarine, plums, nashi pear. There are also blackberries in containers to stop spreading and lots of strawberry plants.

Plants of particular value are:

  • two young pine-nut trees with roots inoculated with truffles
  • a plantation of 63 tea camellia sinensis, from which either green, oolong, or black tea could be made

The garden also has over 20 large trees, which the landscaping highlights, yet still keeps open vistas. These trees would either take many years to grow, or cost you more than $300,000 to buy already grown.

The back garden has raised vegetable beds to make growing your vegetables easy. There is an adjacent large garden sink with both hot and cold water for easy clean-ups. And a compost area is just a few steps away, hidden behind an ornate glass house which will allow you to grow more delicate plants over winter.

The garden has extensive above and below ground drainage which discharges into council drains. The above ground drainage of swales and a water garden has been enhanced with pebbles, plants and decorative grasses. Areas of the garden are also irrigated.

Behind the house there is a decorative parterre garden with hedges of useful rosemary, not box. Maintenance is facilitated by decorative mosaic steps into the parterres. In the garden, there are 3 large decorative wall mosaics and 7 step mosaics, all imported from Lebanon.

The back verandah is tiled with imported Italian tiles.
